Another François langur born at Blijdorp Zoo

A few weeks ago, there was also news of a baby from the François' langur enclosure at Diergaarde Blijdorp. At that time, the Rotterdam Zoo welcomed a male. Last weekend, another cub was born. The sex of this one is still unknown. As far as we know, Rotterdam Zoo has never welcomed two cubs in such a short time.

Rotterdam Zoo has a long history with François' langurs. Rotterdam Zoo is the only zoo in the Netherlands where this critically endangered Chinese monkey species can be seen. Thanks to a sophisticated population management program, zoos worldwide are trying to save the species from extinction.

Reserve population
François' langurs are native to the tropical rainforests of southeast China and Vietnam. Due to habitat loss and hunting, the numbers of this approximately 60-centimeter-tall monkey are still declining. That's one of the reasons why Rotterdam Zoo is very excited about the births of the two cubs.

Strikingly orange
Fun fact: when François' langurs are born, they are bright orange. A very striking appearance among the black adults. Incidentally, the recent calf is a grandchild of Nanpi. At 28, she is the oldest François' langur at Rotterdam Zoo. Both youngsters are on public display.
