Kaj Gorgels, known from YouTube and as a TV presenter, embarks on a new journey. Together with seasoned hospitality entrepreneur and CEO of De Beren, Ad Schaap, and culinary influencer Colin Knopper, he is launching Drippy’s at the iconic Stadhuisplein in Rotterdam.
What can guests expect at Drippy’s?
The wildly popular smashburgers in a variety of styles, a contemporary interior, and perhaps even a glimpse of Kaj Gorgels himself in the restaurant. “After months of preparation, tasting, and fine-tuning, the moment has finally arrived. It’s incredible to see something that was once just an idea come to life,” shares Kaj. “Opening my own restaurant has always been a dream of mine. To make this happen alongside seasoned restaurateur Ad and culinary mastermind Colin is truly the cherry on top of the burger.”
A Strong Collaboration
The partnership between the three entrepreneurs is built on a solid foundation. Ad Schaap, CEO of De Beren and a veteran in the hospitality industry, has known Kaj for years and is impressed by his dedication and entrepreneurial spirit. “Kaj is much more than just a figurehead. His involvement and passion for this project are immense. I wouldn’t have taken this step without him or Colin,” says Schaap. Colin Knopper, who has already made a name for himself as a culinary influencer, has focused on developing the recipes and flavor combinations that make Drippy’s truly unique.
Drippy’s Smashburgers
Smashburgers, originally from the United States, are rapidly gaining popularity in the Dutch hospitality scene. The name comes from the technique of “smashing” the meat onto the grill, creating a crispy brown crust through the Maillard reaction. This process gives the burger its signature, irresistible umami flavor. Drippy’s takes it a step further by using only the finest ingredients: the beef is 100% grass-fed, the buns are freshly baked daily, and even the fries are prepared fresh each day.
The team is eager to prove themselves in Rotterdam and has ambitious plans for the future. “We don’t want to stop at just one location. This is the start of something much bigger,” says Gorgels. “Rotterdam is our first step, but we’re definitely thinking beyond.”
