The World Port Days is an annual maritime event in the port and the center of Rotterdam. World Port Days 2022 is the 45th edition and takes place September 2, 3 and 4. During the three-day event, the port of Rotterdam is presented to the public at various locations in the city and the harbor. Visitors get to know the companies better during various excursions and tours.
This year, Wereldhavendagen is celebrating a triple anniversary. Not only is it the 45th edition of the event itself, but the Port of Rotterdam Authority is also celebrating its 90th anniversary and the Nieuwe Waterweg is celebrating its 150th birthday.
“The program will show why the port is such a special place in 2022,” says Sabine Bruijnincx, director of Stichting Wereldhavendagen. “Every day, with the help of smart technology, fantastic professionals ensure a clean, efficient and safe transit of goods and raw materials. Countless innovative companies are working on the sustainable solutions of the future. At the same time, there are major challenges, such as the necessary CO2 reduction and the thousands of vacancies associated with the energy transition and digitalization of the port. We want to show that too.”
Discovering the port
The program for Wereldhavendagen 2022 includes countless activities for young and old. The quays around the Erasmus Bridge will be home to the impressive ships of dredging company Van Oord among others. Traditionally, the Royal Netherlands Navy is present on the Parkkade with the amphibious transport ship Zr.Ms. Rotterdam. Paratroopers give various spectacular demonstrations and the commandos will also show their skills.
Those interested can go on excursions to take a look behind the scenes at various companies. On the water, there are various boat trips. A new tour is a visit to the almost completed Blankenburg connection. The evening show will not be missing either, with performances by various artists, boat shows, special effects and, of course, the traditional fireworks will mark the end of World Port Days 2022.
Almost the entire World Port Days 2022 program is free to visit. Exceptions are the excursions and the Real Life Game, for which tickets can be purchased from mid-August.
