The Holy Toast descends at the Laurenskerk

Laurenskerk Rotterdam opens a pop-up terrace at the Grotekerkplein. The Holy Toast will open on 4 May and serves toasted sandwiches, drinks, and sweets.

The Holy Toast is an initiative of the Laurenskerk to create more liveliness at the Grotekerkplein. “We hope to attract people who come to enjoy the peace and quiet in the heart of the city center in the sunshine”. All proceeds from the terrace will go to the Laurenskerk. “With this, we can keep the monument open for all Rotterdammers and maintain the building, which is a major expense every year.”

The Holy Toast is open from May to September if it’s nice weather from Tuesday to Sunday 10 AM to 5 PM. In July and August, the opening hours are 10 AM to 8 PM.

The menu consists of different heavenly toasted sandwiches, all named after different saints. Of course, there is the Saint Laurentius (Patron Saint of Rotterdam and namesake of the church) with Rotterdamsche Oude-cheese and ham. But there also is a Sankt Bonefatius (Patron Saint of Germany). This sandwich has Old cheese and sauerkraut or Sant’Ilario, the Patron Saint of Parma. This sandwich has Mozzarella, Parma ham, tomato, and arugula as ingredients. It’s possible to turn every toasti into a dinner with an extra layer.

Next to the food, there are free outdoor games for everyone. But visitors can also just enjoy the sun on the church square, an oasis of tranquility in the city center.
