Royal family celebrates King’s Day in Rotterdam

King’s Day is when the Dutch celebrate the birthday of their king. King Willem Alexander was born on 27 April and so there are many parties, flea markets and, of course, the king himself visits a city with his family. Next year Rotterdam hosts the House of Oranje.

Next to his birthday, he will also celebrate his 10-year reign in 2023. Locals with great ideas for King’s Day can share them at www.koningsdaginrotterdam.nl. Together with the city, a program will be developed that suits both Rotterdam and the Netherlands.

The city council is happy and honored with the choice for Rotterdam. Mayor Aboutaleb: “The bond with the Royal Family has always been strong. Rotterdam has always been able to count on the warm interest of our monarchs, for better or for worse. Therefore, Rotterdam will be King’s City of the Netherlands for one day on April 27. Everyone is welcome!”

Culture alderman Said Kasmi is also delighted with the news. “Beautiful and symbolic that the King chooses a party in 010 for the celebration of 10 years of Kingship. Together with the city we will make it an unforgettable celebration for the Royal Family, the people of Rotterdam, and everyone who wants to celebrate this day with us. Something to look forward to!
