After Cult had several pop-up locations at Weelde and Lux, Rutger van de Pol has decided to open a permanent shop and bar for natural wine in Delfshaven. The sommelier found his desired corner building at the Oostkousdijk in Delfshaven. To make everything perfect he started a crowdfunding campaign.
Rutger came to Rotterdam a couple of years ago and started working at Lux and Putaine and he made wine lists for other restaurants. At the beginning of 2020, he founded Cult. A pop-up without a fixed location. Van de Pol delivered wine and organized temporarily spots at Weelde, Lux and Kaapse Maria. But now he wants his own spot. Cult must become a wine bar serving 100% natural wines, without additives and often with little or no sulfite added. Made by winemakers with respect for nature. From day one, he wants to have more than 150 different wines for the offering. It will be a spot with a focus on natural wine, beers, sake, homemade soft drinks and good food.
As for food Cult will work with a small menu. Local and small-scale is an important factor. Bread comes from the Elderflour bakery, fish comes from the North Sea, and local chefs will host small events. Van de Pol will also do courses regarding natural wine.
Creating Cult
The construction of the spot has already started and the investment will be used to refurbish the floor and ceiling and to get awesome furniture and a bar by the design of artist Nightshop666. For the final push, Rutger van de Pol needs a minimum of €45,000. Everything above that will be used to renovate the basement, terrace, and expand the kitchen.
