Trompenburg kicks off spring in Rotterdam

Spring has arrived, and there’s no better place to celebrate the season than Trompenburg Tuinen & Arboretum in Rotterdam. This eight-hectare botanical garden, located on Honingerdijk in Kralingen, invites visitors for a day of nature, relaxation, and outdoor activity. The garden kicks off the season with a lively Lentefestival this weekend, followed by a specialized plant market in May, perfect for a green day out.


Fun for the whole family at the lentefestival

On March 29, Trompenburg hosts its Lentefestival, a vibrant spring event for all ages. Stroll through blooming pathways, visit the lambs and chicks in the meadows, and enjoy a variety of activities for children. Kids can craft cardboard hobbyhorses, navigate a wheelbarrow course, and climb and explore the forest. The festival combines nature, play, and relaxation, making it the ideal way to welcome spring in Rotterdam.

Enjoy Rotterdam’s greenest terrace

After exploring the gardens, head to Flora Garden Restaurant, tucked away in Trompenburg. From April 1, Flora is open daily, offering a fully vegetarian menu featuring fresh ingredients from Trompenburg’s own food forest, the Overtuin—think house-made wild garlic hummus. Flora is perfect for a high tea, casual lunch, or private event outside opening hours. On sunny days, enjoy your meal on the green terrace, surrounded by the lush gardens.

Specialized plant market in May

On May 16–17, Trompenburg hosts a specialized plant market. Here, professional growers sell a wide variety of plants, trees, shrubs, and bulbs. Need advice or gardening tips? The growers are happy to help. Beyond plants, you’ll find garden décor, honey, and other green products. The plant market pairs perfectly with a relaxing stroll through the gardens and a stop at Flora’s terrace.

Trompenburg Tuinen & Arboretum is a botanical garden with an impressive collection of trees, plants, and shrubs. Founded around 200 years ago, the garden is a treasure trove of biodiversity and natural history. Trompenburg is now a registered museum and is known as Rotterdam’s green museum, offering an oasis of peace, activity, and inspiration on the edge of the city center.
