In the upcoming Scheepvaartkwartier, you can find Wildstube. A Bayerischer cabin with a beer garden serving game dishes and German wines and beer. Wildstube bei Balten is located in the basement of the Van Vollenhovenstraat number 23.
Owner Balten Schalkwijk is no stranger to the Rotterdam hospitality industry. After 20 years of working in banking and shipping, he decided to start his own Wildstube. It’s a logical extension as he owns Het Tableau, a caterer and webshop offering game meat.
In the front of the space, you can find a cosy bar with high tables to enjoy delicious lunch dishes. In the evening you can get a nice cold glass of beer of fine wine and game snacks and finger food. Those who want a full meal can order it to take it home.
In the back of the restaurant, you will find a shop with various game dishes, beer, wine, and honey. At the back of the building is the Biergarten, a spacious garden with sun all day.
Balten grew up in Oostvoorne and could always be found in the dunes enjoying nature. About 10 years ago, he started hunting. Balten: “Game is much more honest, sustainable and animal-friendly than the meat we eat in the bio-industry.”
Wildsutube is open seven days a week. From 11 AM to 11 PM.
