The Loose Company reaching out
Founder Thijmen Brinkman has been skateboarding since he was ten years old. He’s found it difficult to explain why he likes skating so much. ”I can’t really put it into words. Skateboarding is such a dynamic process. Part of what I like about it is everything around it. The attitudes, actions and productions of skateboarders. It’s full of materials, people, objects and situations. Skateboarders are creators. With their attitude and mindset they’re responsible for special brands, music, books and other stuff. For my first collaboration, I was looking for something that would express that Do-It-Yourself attitude. And in such a way that people who have nothing to do with skateboarding can understand it. And then the answer suddenly came to me. A show about two friends who simply look past all the obstacles in their lives. They focus on the solution and simply use what they have. The setbacks don’t matter, they will find a solution for them too. The end result is not always miraculous, but it is self-made. And they are proud of that.”
”When I realized this, I sent an email to the company with the idea of creating a series of skateboards with the iconic duo. I immediately received an enthusiastic response from the head office in the Czech Republic. Now, one year later, we finally did it. It’s not only the first official collaboration of The Loose Company, but also the very first collection of Pat & Mat for adults.”
