Tech Noir

The perfect weekend to get to know Tech Noir and other new spots

After Corona all things slowed down. The economy came to a blistering halt. But fortunately, there are still many entrepreneurs who push through. So to acknowledge their ambitions, preparations and persistence we present new restaurants and cafes like Tech Noir, Smells good in the Hood, Loeve, CafΓ© Roosje, Endless Sunday and On Cru which opened its doors during Covid-19.

Tech Noir

When a restaurant is named after the club in The Terminator from 1984 you can expect a special decor and atmosphere. Two renowned locals are full-on reimagining the 80’s and 90’s aesthetic on the ground floor of 42Workspace. Food will be served from early morning till the evening. Half of the menu will be vegetarian and vegan. So get your eggs any way you want, pancakes, chicken & waffles, and cauliflower nuggets. In the evening Tech Noir turns into a bar and event space.

Smells good in the Hood

He already made quite an impact in the Rotterdam food scene. Chef Big Nate is known all over the city and has years of experience as a chef in various restaurants. On the side, he always organised Smells Good In The Hood-events. Street parties inspired by American 90s hip-hop and black culture with a lot of quality comfort food. Now he has his own solid spot in Rotterdam-Noord. In the colourful restaurant the classic Big Nate Beef burger, Grandma’s Famous Jerk Chicken are served, the Jerk Jackfruit Burrito will impress many a vegan. Of course, there will be Block Parties.

On Cru

They had the same thought. To start a new restaurant together. This young couple met each other on the workfloor. He’s a chef and she’s the host. Together they now operate easy going On Cru in a beautiful historic building near the Old Harbor. You can choose from 3, 4 or 5 courses. The dishes are honest, thoughtful and refined. Take for example an amuse bouche with strawberry, tomato, goat’s cheese and thin crisps of brique dough or a fresh dish of raw tuna with rettich and a stuffing of cauliflower.

Endless Sunday

Millions of people stream the sounds of Chillhop. The perfect lazy instrumental beats for working, studying, and relaxing are appreciated all over the world. But not many people realize Chillhop has it’s HQ in Rotterdam. Near their office, the music label now runs its own cafe.
Endless Sunday is dedicated to chilling. From wednesday to sunday that lazy sunday-feeling will be celebrated under the Hofbogen. On the menu, you’ll find coffee, beers, wine, and food like salads and smos sandwiches, richly filled Belgian baguettes with a variety of ingredients.

Boardgames, backgammon, and chess games are lying around to play. In terms of food, you can count on a brasserie menu. In the morning you can order a good cup of coffee with a croissant and for lunch a tasty sandwich with all kinds of eggs. In the evening you can order salads, hot dogs or snacks.

Loeve

At the very spot where the harbour of Rotterdam once originated a new pavilion has been opened. It’s part of the Maritime Museum Rotterdam and this modern building, largely made of glass, will complete the approach of the museum. The combination of the indoor museum, the museum harbour with historic ships and the public-oriented workshops in the new pavilion show the enormous effect the maritime world has on our daily lives. While contemplating all that information you can get a coffee, a waffle or an ice cream at Loeve, one of the two new eateries also in the pavilion. It’s named after the old creek that used to flow here and in 1598 was the very beginning of the port of Rotterdam.
