Marianne Splint new director of Kunsthal Rotterdam

Marianne Splint will be the new director of Kunsthal Rotterdam. She will be responsible for the institute’s strategic and artistic course. She will closely collaborate with business director Herman van Karnebeek.

Since 2012, Marianne Splint (1982) has been director of Museum Helmond, which consists of Helmond Castle and Kunsthal Helmond. There Splint realised significant growth – not only in an organisational and financial sense but also regarding public outreach. Under her leadership, this municipal museum was able to evolve into a more independent and distinctive institute situated at the heart of society. With a background in visual art, art history, and general cultural studies, Splint has also been a board member of the trade association Museumvereniging (Museum Association) since 2018.

Marianne Splint about her appointment as director: “Kunsthal Rotterdam is an incomparable and leading institute in a city that is always on the move. The Kunsthal is firmly rooted in the city of Rotterdam. But simultaneously has an enormous outreach across the country and international flair. Its accessible and unconventional way of presenting combined with the high quality and great diversity of the programme, make it an institute that I can and want to contribute to with a great deal of pleasure. I am looking forward to further expanding the Kunsthal’s success. Together with the highly committed team, the makers, and the many collaboration partners.”

Chair of the supervisory board Arjan Schakenbos says: “We are very happy to welcome Marianne Splint. Her experience, network and unifying and entrepreneurial personality, as well as her sharp eye for social and cultural developments, perfectly match Kunsthal’s dynamics. We have every faith that she is the right person to lead this unique institute.”
