A new market is starting at the initiative of the Municipality of Rotterdam. The Kaapse Markt, a small-scale Friday market on the Deliplein in the middle of the bustling Katendrecht district. The first edition is this Friday, May 27.
The Kaapse Markt will be open from 10 AM to 5 PM. For now it’s a one year pilot. Together with residents, market traders and surrounding entrepreneurs the municipality wants to experience how a market in Katendrecht can work for the neighborhood. The aim is therefore to create a market with environmentally conscious, social and mainly regional entrepreneurs. A market without waste and with more attention to conviviality in the form of seating and musice. Research in the neighborhood has shown that there is a desire for a market with mainly food, supplemented with fresh goods, flowers and plants.
The Kaapse Markt is a pilot market
The municipality wants to test a new way of working. In collaboration with a board group, consisting of residents and entrepreneurs from the neighbourhood. For the Kaapse Markt some new rules applied. Merchants had to apply for a stand. Das Brot, Vegan Suppli and Fruithuis have already made their presence known.
