International neighborhood party

Rotterdam Bluegrass Festival

There is a beautiful music dome on Pijnackerplein in the middle of the ‘Oude Noorden’ (Old North) neighbourhood in Rotterdam. Until ten years ago, the dome was never used for music. That changed when Guido de Groot, cartoonist, bluegrass enthusiast and local resident, came up with the plan to hold a festival in 2009, inviting some bluegrass bands to play at the dome. It resulted in a neighbourhood party with 250 visitors, on a small corner of the square. The Rotterdam Bluegrass Festival has been taking place every year since 2012.
