Street Dreams: Hip Hop Fashion

HIP HOP FASHION

Street Dreams: How Hip Hop took over Fashion is the title of an exhibition currently on at Kunsthal Rotterdam. It focuses on how the Hip Hop culture that emerged from the Bronx has influenced fashion and lifestyle (just think of all the sports gear that dominates streetwear these days) and, more importantly, Hip Hop culture’s core message that anyone can look like “a million bucks” even if you come from one of the poorest neighborhoods in New York. The exhibition shows how Hip Hop has evolved and asserted itself, from its early beginnings in 1970’s America, to the baggy clothing of the 1990’s, on to today’s generation who will do anything to score a Nike x Patta article.
