Julie Thissen is a French/Dutch product designer. She set up her own design studio in 2013 in Rotterdam. In parallel to her studio, she also set up the cyclist. The Rotterdam collection is a set of retroreflective scarves for that label.
With The Cyclist, Julie focuses on high-quality accessories designed especially for urban cyclists and commuters. The collection supplies accessories that fit the urban lifestyle: they are elegant and at the same time functional, convenient and suited to accompany a busy day-to-day life. All the items feature details made of reflective material: a decorative element during the day, transforming into a safety feature at night.
The collection already offers bags, jewelry, and scarves. The Rotterdam collection is a new set of retroreflective scarves. Julie says: ”Due to the multiple lock-downs and travel restrictions, I have been looking closer to home for fresh ideas, drawing inspiration directly from the city of Rotterdam, where I live and work. With this new introspective collection, the label goes back to its metropolitan roots and pays tribute to the architecture of this city. Each scarf in the collection is inspired by a building in Rotterdam.”
Just like all other items from the cyclist’s collection, these scarves also feature retro-reflective elements. Julie asked Rotterdam-based photographer Mathijs Labadie to create an experimental photographic series. The pictures capture and show the reflective effect.
The cyclist on show at OBJECT Rotterdam
the new collection of scarves will also be on show in May at OBJECT Rotterdam. This pop-up platform and annual show is perfect for anyone interested in interior, design lovers, art professionals, and collectors. During this show, the scarves collection will be presented for the first time in the Netherlands. The beautiful photo series by Mathijs Labadie will be on show alongside the scarves.
