Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTHA)

Rotterdam The Hague Airport ready for take-off once again

Rotterdam The Hague Airport is already 65 years old. The airport has a warm, almost homely atmosphere. It’s one of the valued qualities. To further expand these easy-going conditions, several parts of the airport are under construction.

There has been major maintenance work on and near the taxiway, in dire need of an overhaul. Maintenance is necessary to guarantee the safety of air traffic using the taxiway. At the moment, the asphalt has too many (repaired) cracks. The taxiway is being given a completely new asphalt surface to solve this problem. The two intersections at both ends of the taxiway will be widened and provided with new asphalt. The work is being carried out by the construction company KWS. In addition to renewing the foundations and the asphalt, for example, we will also be installing new markings, new edge runners and runway lighting cabling is replaced. There will also be new LED lighting and new runway signs.

The new asphalt is sustainable as Rotterdam The Hague Airport focuses on climate-neutral and circular infrastructure.

New terminal at Rotterdam The Hague Airport

Earlier Rotterdam based architecture firm Moen & van Oosten Architekten designed a new terminal.

The new departure hall has been improved to guarantee a smooth flow of passengers. More daylight and a warm atmosphere has been created. The sustainability of the airport is also improved. For instance, the moss sedum roof captures fine dust and contributes to a more stable indoor temperature.

Two roof terraces have been created. The open space in between brings daylight deep into the new departure hall. The high ceiling and the glass façade ensure an increased sense of spaciousness in the departure hall. Because of the use of wooden elements and other sustainable building materials,

This quality is carefully preserved, and constantly further improved. Work is still going to build a new restaurant and to better facilitate access to the panoramic roof terrace.

Every week planes leave for a wide range of destinations of 50 European cities. RTHA is a silent airport. There are no flight announcements, passengers are requested to consult the flight information screens in the immediate vicinity.

Recently it was announced Fletcher Hotels took over Wingels Hotel next to the airport. They will also open a second hotel next to RTHA.
