Zimmerwax at SS Rotterdam Vincent van Dordrecht

Zimmerwax brings jazz back on board the ss Rotterdam

Next to the already eventful history of the the ss Rotterdam as the former flagship of the Holland America Line. Jazz legends like Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington, Sarah Vaughan and Frank Sinatra all played on board. During the second edition of Zimmerwax those stories are depicted.

Zimmerwax is an initiative of Erwin Zimmerman. He is a dj and co-owner of the regarded record store Demonfuzz. When he heard about the many jazz artists who performed on board he was inspired to create Zimmerwax. A jazz performance with music from Dizzy Gillespie to James Moody, from Sarah Vaughan to Dave Brubeck and Frank Sinatra. Erwin Zimmerman tells the story behind an artist’s song (in Dutch) while he plays their music. Next a band, led by none other than saxophonist Benjamin Herman, will take over.

“You close your eyes when the vinyl is spinning and open them again when the band starts playing and are thus carried away in the music and the accompanying feeling of yesteryear”.
