Zalmhuis

Zalmhuis

A bit off the beaten track, you need to be in the know to find this large art nouveau-style building and restaurant. It’s located at Rivium, a business park at the foot of the Van Brienenoord Bridge and has great views over the IJssel and the Nieuwe Maas rivers. Fresh salmon was once fished from the river and sold at this spot. That is no longer the case, but people still come from far and wide to enjoy a meal of the delicious fish or other brasserie specialities, including jugged hare with red cabbage and potato puree, and a (small) portion of steak tartare, dame blanche and crème brûleé. With its royal-blue velvet seating, red velvet chairs, parquet floors and enormous stained glass windows, Zalmhuis is real hidden treasure.
