The Nieuwe Binnenweg and its surroundings once were filled with record shops and clubs. To honor these funky times Wester Paviljoen is launching a weekly session on Sunday. Local DJ’s play vinyl as a tribute to those times.
The Nieuwe Binnenweg determined the musical climate of the city. Clubs like Otto, Full Moon, Tudor, Sunshine and Beat Corner were the places to be. Later record shops followed. You can still find hard-to-find vinyl at Demonfuzz and Plaatboef. But there used to be so many more stores like Clone, Basic Beat and Mid-town. World-famous DJ’s like Michel de Hey, Benny Rodrigues, Paul Elstak and TiΓ«sto worked at the shops and thus started their career there.
Starting this Sunday, renowned local dj’s play vinyl at the pavilion on the corner of the Nieuwe Binnenweg and the Mathenesserlaan. This Sunday, 14 November, is the first edition and Dandy Dave will get behind the turntable.
He is a former guitarist of The Apemen and was a programmer at Rotown. He now has his own shop at the Botersloot. Where all his passions come together: clothing, cycling and, how appropriate, vinyl. Expect him to play obscure soul, beat and jazz.
Every Sunday from 3 to 7 PM.
