De Rotterdam by STRM

Building the city with the paper models of STRM

The Rotterdam Architecture Month is almost upon us. The whole month of June is dedicated to architecture. Ever since Rotterdam began promoting itself as ‘The architecture city of the Netherlands’ STRM started producing DIY models of Rotterdam buildings.

The company started with the Robeco tower, Willemswerf, Van Nelle factory, Montevideo, Toren op Zuid and the World Port Center. Since then, every year one or two buildings have been added to the series. The most recent buildings are De Zalmhaven and Het Depot. The most popular buoldings are De Rotterdam, The Cube Houses, Het Depot and the Markthal.

Constructing the paper models of STRM

Most buildings are easy to make. The Lee Towers, the Cube Houses, or De Rotterdam can be finished in an hour or two. Some are more complex, such as the Cooltoren and The Depot. They will take some four hours to complete. All that is needed are scissors or a knife, a ruler, and a bit of craft glue. Each building has a clear and straightforward construction manual.

The models of STRM of the Rotterdam Buildings are available at De Kunsthal, Boekhandel Donner, Rotterdam Tourist Information, NAi Booksellers, Bosch&deJong and In ‘t Wild.
