Sinfonia Rotterdam brings world star Maxim Vengerov to Rotterdam

Universally hailed as one of the world’s finest musicians, and often referred to as the greatest living string player in the world today. Sinfonia Rotterdam invites the master violinist Maxim Vengerov for a masterclass and the opening of the Sinfonia Classics Series.

The concert Burlesque Folk Music in de Doele on September 22 is the starting signal for this project. Besides soloing with Sinfonia Rotterdam, an important element of this project is supporting talented young musicians. To emphasize this, Maxim Vengerov will give a masterclass to three students and one alumnus of Codarts Rotterdam on Wednesday 21 September at 14:30.

Maxim Vengerov is the first of a total of four world stars that Sinfonia Rotterdam will collaborate with for the Sinfonia Meesters Project in the coming years.

Born in 1974, Maxim Vengerov began his career as a solo violinist at the age of five, won the Wieniawski and Carl Flesch international competitions at ages 10 and 15 respectively, studied with Galina Tourchaninova and Zakhar Bron, made his first recording at the age of 10, and went on to record extensively for high-profile labels including Melodia, Teldec and EMI, earning among others, Grammy and Gramophone artist of the year awards.
