The Rotterdam Haringparty, one of the city’s most iconic business networking events, celebrated its 30th edition yesterday. For three decades, the event has been a hotspot for creative cross-pollination, culinary enjoyment, and Rotterdam flair. Hosted annually in the lush courtyard of the Bilderberg Parkhotel Rotterdam, the event brings together entrepreneurs, artists, public figures, and influencers for an unforgettable experience.
Honoring Huib Lloyd of stichting Jarige Job
As part of a cherished tradition, a local artist paints the first barrel of Hollandse Nieuwe (Dutch new herring), which is then presented to a notable Rotterdammer. This year, the honor went to Huib Lloyd, founder and director of Stichting Jarige Job, in recognition of his outstanding work supporting children living in poverty.
For the organization’s 15th anniversary, Lloyd received the custom-painted herring barrel, a tribute to his mission of giving thousands of underprivileged children across the Netherlands the chance to celebrate their birthdays with gift-filled party boxes.
“With his passion for child welfare and his commitment to social change, Huib Lloyd is a true inspiration,”
said Clarissa Slingerland, co-organizer and owner of PR agency MissPublicity.
Unique artwork by Rotterdam artist Tymon de Laat
To mark this special anniversary edition, celebrated Rotterdam artist Tymon de Laat was invited to transform the herring barrel into a one-of-a-kind artwork. Known for his contemporary portraits and urban-inspired style, de Laat’s contribution added a powerful visual element to the event.
“I recreated my first large-scale mural from Rotterdam — a turning point in my international career,”
said Tymon de Laat.
His artwork not only reflects the soul of the city but also symbolizes the fusion of art, tradition, and community that defines the Rotterdam Haringparty.
Culinary highlights: new bistro and Hollandse Nieuwe
This year’s event also celebrated the opening of a new French bistro inside the Bilderberg Parkhotel. Guests sampled refined dishes from the new menu, alongside the star of the show — fresh Dutch herring. To toast the occasion, Magnums of MiP rosé (Made in Provence) from winemakers Guillaume and Virginie Philip were served.

A standout event for art, networking & impact
