Meet Melly

Melly is part of the newly christened, Kunstinstituut Melly, formerly known as Witte deWith Center for Contemporary Art. Located in the downstairs area of the institute, Mellyis a space for collaboration and conversation in regard to contemporary art and culture.By creating this space, and its subsequent programs, the goal is to make art moreaccessible and inclusive.The name “Melly” originated from artist Ken Lum’s iconicposter titled “Melly ShumHates Her Job”. It portrays a smiling woman of Asian descent in an office setting andwas inspired by the hard working immigrant class of Rotterdam. The institutecommissioned this particular piece back in 1990 and can still be seen hanging outside theKunstinstituut Melly on Witte de Withstraat today.There are a number of events happening in-person and online.
