Jazz in Rotterdam

A hundred years ago, Rotterdam was already an international jazz hotspot, thanks to the African-American soldiers who introduced swinging music to the old continent during the First World War (1914-1918). Around a thousand musicians, including The Harlem Hell Fighters, treated Europe to the magical new jazz sounds of the era. Big names from all over the world came to perform in our unique city, where dance halls and theatres sprung up like mushrooms. Rotterdam’s jazz pastis brought to life in four films.

Jazz in Rotterdam: until 8th September in Museum Rotterdam, Rodezand 26.
Open: Tues-Sat 10.00-17.00,
Sun 11.00-17.00.
