Compassionate food choices

The Rotterdam vegan food scene is on the rise, and attitudes are changing, giving way to innovative and charming vegan-friendly restaurants. This local’s guide features a snapshot of the best places the city has to offer. Whether you’re looking for some tasty grub or a romantic evening out, each spot provides a unique balance of taste and atmosphere.

Vegan Junk Food Bar
Schiedamse Vest 144
Mon-Sun 11 AM – 12 AM

Aside from the vibrant pink interior and vegan-themed graffiti on the walls, this diner-esque joint is all about the food. From burgers and loaded chips, to ‘sashimi’ and organic juice, this place has it all. Ease yourself into a gluttonous lunch with a Tipsy Unicorn (a fresh blend of vodka, lychee juice and lemon). To start, the No Tuna and Zalmon served with ginger, wasabi and soy sauce was every bit as good as I’d been led to believe. Flavour and textural artistry, I couldn’t wait to indulge further. The Original Burger with garlic sauce is a fine case in point. It has to be the best vegan burger I’ve ever tasted – juicy and light, but filling, packed with pickles, cheese and salad. Everything a burger should be. To accompany, the crunchy, sweet potato crisps with creamy truffle mayo are a sensation. I challenge any meat-eater to see if this couldn’t convince them to go vegan!
