Be alone with Rothko

Alone with Rothko

Rothko & me, or is it me & Rothko? No matter which way you see it, the fact is that in the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, you can be completely alone with one of the American artist’s great works. There is one condition though: in order to visit the artwork Grey, Orange on Maroon, No. 8(1960) you have to hand over your cell phone temporarily. Due to high demand, private viewing sessions are limited to five minutes. The large painting with its bold bands of colour is on loan from Rotterdam’s Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum, which has closed its doors for a major seven-year renovation. By the way, the Schiedam Museum recently won the Museumprijs 2019 award, so it’s worth factoring in enough time to explore it thoroughly.
Rothko & Me: until 5th of January 2020 at Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Hoogstraat 112, Schiedam.
Open: Tues-Sun 11.00–17.00
