‘Klassiek in het Park’: A free classical music festival in Rotterdam

On Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August, Het Park next to the Euromast will become an open-air stage for classical music, live performances and dancing. Klassiek in het Park invites visitors to experience classical music in a relaxed setting, and even join in.

Looking for something different to do in Rotterdam this summer? Klassiek in het Park brings two days of free classical music to one of the city’s most beautiful green spaces. From orchestral concerts and chamber music to tango, young talent and family activities, the festival offers something for music lovers of all ages.

Classical music in the heart of Rotterdam

Klassiek in het Park builds on two much-loved Rotterdam music traditions: the Dag van de Romantische Muziek and the Sinfonia Maritiem Concert. Across several stages in Het Park, visitors can enjoy a diverse programme featuring orchestral music, chamber music, vocals, tango and Latin American music.

There is no need to stick to one stage. Visitors can wander through the park, discover different performances and find their own favourite spot. Bring a picnic blanket or chair, enjoy something to eat or drink and settle in for an afternoon or evening of music.

Sinfonia Rotterdam takes the main stage

Saturday focuses on orchestral music, with Sinfonia Rotterdam performing under the direction of conductor Conrad van Alphen.

The programme includes a family concert in the afternoon and a spectacular evening concert, featuring music by Rossini and Händel, as well as performances by award-winning young soloists. Rachel Rosier will present the concerts.

The evening concludes with Händel’s spectacular Music for the Royal Fireworks, a fitting finale for a summer evening in the park.

Admission to both Sinfonia Rotterdam concerts is free, but visitors must reserve a ticket in advance. For €5, you can reserve a chair, or simply bring your own chair or picnic blanket.

Tango, ballroom and dancing on sunday

On Sunday, the atmosphere shifts from orchestral concerts to live tango and ballroom music. The area in front of the main stage transforms into a dance floor, with performances by OTRA and legendary Dutch orchestra The Ramblers.

In collaboration with Codarts and Rotterdam dance schools, visitors are encouraged to get up and dance themselves. Whether you’re an experienced dancer or simply want to try a few steps, the dance floor is open to everyone.

Discover young musical talent

The festival also puts the spotlight on emerging musicians. Two smaller stages throughout Het Park will host chamber music, unexpected ensembles and young talent.

Performers include Duo Ondine, Noies Quartet, Tacora Cello Duo and Liam Nassereddine, offering visitors the chance to discover some of the next generation of musicians in an informal outdoor setting.

A classical music festival for the whole family

Klassiek in het Park is designed to be enjoyed by the entire family. The Saturday afternoon family concert offers children an accessible introduction to the world of the orchestra, with music ranging from Rossini to Händel.

There is also a dedicated children’s programme, including Hieperdepiep! De Kleuteropera and Klassiek op reis met Jutter Thijs. Children can also get creative during activities by Klieder en Klodder throughout the weekend.
