This summer, the Sama Sama Maluku Festival returns to the Zegerplas in Alphen aan den Rijn with a special edition that honours a significant milestone in Dutch history. On 4 July 2026, the largest Moluccan festival in the Netherlands will not only celebrate music, food and culture, but also mark 75 years of the Moluccan community in the Netherlands.
Bringing together thousands of visitors from across the country, the festival offers a unique opportunity to experience the richness of Moluccan traditions while reflecting on the journey of generations who helped shape Dutch society.
A tribute to 75 years of Moluccan history
The anniversary highlights an important chapter in the history of the Netherlands. Since the arrival of the first Moluccan families in 1951, the community has built strong cultural roots while preserving its traditions, values and identity.
This year’s festival places special emphasis on remembering and celebrating those stories. Through music, culture and community gatherings, visitors are invited to reflect on the legacy of the first generation and the lasting impact of Moluccan heritage on Dutch culture.
Music, culture and authentic Moluccan cuisine
Known as the biggest Moluccan festival in the country, Sama Sama Maluku Festival combines live entertainment with cultural experiences for all ages.
The 2026 line-up features performances by well-known Dutch artists including Trijntje Oosterhuis, Ronnie Flex, Zoë Tauran, Massada and Danjil, while presenter Joshua Timisela guides visitors through the day’s programme.
Beyond the main stage, guests can explore a vibrant pasar featuring more than 80 stalls offering handmade products, cultural crafts and authentic Moluccan and Indonesian cuisine. From traditional family recipes to contemporary flavours, food remains one of the festival’s biggest attractions.
Strengthening connections across generations
While the festival is widely known for its lively atmosphere, this year’s edition also focuses on connection, remembrance and cultural continuity. By bringing together older and younger generations, Sama Sama Maluku Festival aims to ensure that the stories, traditions and values of the Moluccan community continue to be shared and preserved.
The event reflects how culture can serve as a bridge between past and future, creating a space where history is remembered while new generations shape what comes next.
One of the Netherlands’ most unique cultural festivals
Over the years, Sama Sama Maluku Festival has grown into one of the most important celebrations of Moluccan culture in Europe. With its combination of live music, cultural heritage, family activities and community spirit, the festival attracts visitors from diverse backgrounds who come together to experience the warmth and hospitality for which the Moluccan community is known.
