De Grote Schijn 2025: experience the magic of Kralingse Bos

This autumn, Kralingse Bos transforms once again into a world of enchantment during De Grote Schijn. From October 16 to November 2, 2025, a brand-new two-kilometer walking route will guide visitors through a spectacular display of lights, immersive sounds, and magical natural moments. It’s an experience for all ages, blending nature and technology in a way that sparks the imagination.

Director Christophe Van Hostauijen promises a journey where reality and fantasy merge, offering a space to escape everyday life and get lost in a mesmerizing, almost timeless atmosphere.

Sustainable and responsible

Respect for nature is central to De Grote Schijn. The route follows existing paths, and visitor numbers are controlled with time slots. All light installations are turned off before midnight to minimize impact on wildlife. Ecologists confirm that the effects on the flora and fauna are minimal, and visitors are encouraged to follow these guidelines: stay on the paths, avoid using flash photography, and dispose of or take your waste with you.

The event also focuses on sustainability in energy and catering. Locally sourced and organic food, biodegradable disposables, and electric vehicles for setup and teardown help reduce the ecological footprint. Visitors can enjoy a stunning event while keeping the impact on the environment as low as possible.

Tips for a great visit
  • Arrive by bike or public transport; free bike parking is available at the entrance.
  • If driving, park at Park & Ride Kralingse Zoom and walk the last 15 minutes.
  • Take photos without flash to protect the forest.
  • Help separate waste so materials like rPET cups can be recycled and reused.
De Grote Schijn brings a touch of magic to Rotterdam, offering a unique way to experience Kralingse Bos. It’s a captivating journey where music, technology, and nature come together—a truly unforgettable autumn experience.
