Football fans in Rotterdam have a new place to gather this summer. From 11 June onwards, Villa Kakelbont is transforming its cosy city-centre café into what it hopes will become the largest World Cup pub in Rotterdam. Located in the Halvemaanpassage, the popular living-room-style café will broadcast every World Cup match that takes place during opening hours, not just the games featuring the Dutch national team. With large screens, match predictions, special promotions and entertainment throughout the tournament, Villa Kakelbont is aiming to create the ultimate football atmosphere for supporters from around the world.
Every match live on the big screens While many venues focus primarily on Oranje matches, Villa Kakelbont is embracing the entire tournament. From the opening group-stage fixtures to the final, visitors can watch every available match live on multiple large screens with full sound. Whether you're cheering for the Netherlands, supporting your home country or simply enjoying the excitement of international football, the café promises a welcoming atmosphere for every football fan. According to co-owner Thom van Zanten, the goal is simple: to create one large football living room where people can come together and enjoy the tournament. More than just football The World Cup experience at Villa Kakelbont goes beyond the action on the pitch. Visitors can participate in prediction contests before kick-off, with prizes available for those who correctly forecast match results. Regular guests can also collect stamps through a special loyalty programme, unlocking additional promotions and offers throughout the tournament. Even during half-time, the entertainment continues, ensuring the energy remains high from the first whistle to the final goal. A social gathering place in the heart of Rotterdam Since opening earlier this year, Villa Kakelbont has quickly established itself as one of Rotterdam’s most unique hospitality concepts. Combining a nostalgic interior, comfort food and a relaxed atmosphere, the venue has become a popular meeting place for friends, families and after-work drinks. The World Cup provides the perfect opportunity to bring that community feeling to life on an even larger scale. Free entry and no reservations required One of the biggest advantages for football fans is that entry remains completely free. No tickets, reservations or complicated bookings are required. Visitors can simply walk in, grab a drink, find a spot and enjoy the match. With cold beers, snacks, football fever and an enthusiastic crowd, Villa Kakelbont looks set to become one of Rotterdam’s go-to destinations throughout the World Cup. Football shirts are encouraged, friends are welcome and every match promises a lively atmosphere in the heart of the city.
