Legendary rapper Rakim celebrates 20 years of HipHopHuis

HipHopHuis is the breeding ground for a creative young community, involved in hip-hop, dance, poetry and street art. Local breakdancers opened the initiative on September 9, 2002. The twentieth anniversary will be celebrated with The God MC Rakim among others.

Rakim was a central artist in the emergence of hip hop. Widely heralded as one of the most gifted MCs and influential acts of his generation, he was one-half of legendary Eric B & Rakim. His solo debut album The 18th Letter celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. He is still a firm favorite for his skills with fans all over the world because of his unique flow, poetic rhymes and brilliant metaphors. He has worked with Dr Dre, Linkin Park and DMX. To this day he remains one of the most universally acclaimed artists hiphop has ever seen.

On September 9 he is the headliner. He will be present for an artist talk in the HipHopHuis and a live concert in Annabel.  Next to the presence of Rakim there is a 20-hour program. With the theme: Staying power. The focus will be on how we as individuals and community stay physically and mentally healthy in a world in which we constantly have to reinvent ourselves?
