Het Podium Rotterdam

Het Podium is the center of Rotterdam Architecture Month

A bright pink city podium, atop the roof of the New Institute, is the center of Rotterdam Architecture Month. Throughout June there are architectural events on the pink stage at almost 30 meters high. Downstairs in The New Institute, the main exhibition (T)Huis is on display. Admission to the platform is free but visitors must reserve a timeslot.

The theme of Rotterdam Architecture Month is Vista Rotterdam, with two special crowd-pullers that offer a unique view of Rotterdam: the Festival Heart with its pink Podium at Het Nieuwe Instituut and the orange Rotterdam Rooftop Walk of the Rotterdam Roof Days.

In the next months, it will be the place for a jazz concert or yoga class overlooking the city. There are various activities for children, including a summer camp. There is a diverse program of partners including Motel Mozaïque, the NN North Sea Jazz Festival, Operator, Roffa Mon Amour, and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. In July and august admission is € 3.

Design of Het Podium

MVRDV designed Het Podium. Inspiration came from the panoramic view from the roof of The New Institute and Jo Coenen’s design with its characteristic pergola. The materials chosen are scaffolding and floor finishes that can be recycled afterwards. Het Podium is an initiative of Het Nieuwe Instituut, in cooperation with Rotterdam Architecture Month, among others. Het Podium coincides with the exhibition MVRDVHNI: The Living Archive of a Studio currently on show in the institute.
