Incredible sportswomen

Since 2000, more than half of Dutch sports medals have been won by women. Museum Rotterdam wants to recognize the incredible sportswomen who have contributed to this. This autumn, the museum presents GIRLPOWER: an exhibition that pays homage to Rotterdam sportswomen.

Female athletes do not always receive the acknowledgment they deserve, despite continually performing well in their given sport. Among the women featured in GIRLPOWER are pro swimmer Rie Mastenbroek, kick boxer Amira Tahri, hockey star Fatima Moreira de Melo and famous cyclist Leontien van Moorsel.

Museum Rotterdam also feels a social responsibility towards the community, particularly the youth community, in regard to sports and health. Which is why, after viewing the exhibit, visitors are given the opportunity to register for various sports clubs in Rotterdam – for free.

GIRLPOWER is on from 7 September 2019 to 8 March 2020 at Museum Rotterdam, Timmerhaus, Rodezand 26. Open Tues-Sat 10 AM – 5 PM, Sun 11 AM – 5 PM. Museumrotterdam.nl
