Dealing with Drugs at the Maritime Museum

Most Dutch people will agree that when talking to foreigners, the conversation is guaranteed to include tulips, Amsterdam, cheese… and drugs.
Since cannabis became available for recreational use in the 1970s, the Netherlands has become a global icon for drugs. Unfortunately, the scope of this title expands beyond cannabis. According to the 2019 European Drug Report, the Netherlands plays a central role in MDMA, synthetic drug and amphetamine production in the European Union. Most drugs are trafficked through the port of Rotterdam, making it crucial in the discussion of drugs in the European Union. The Maritime Museum tackles this issue head-on with the exhibit β€œDealing with Drugs”.
The interactive experience gives visitors the opportunity to play a character in the drug trade. Who will you be? A customs or port authority officer? A judge? A dealer? After deciding which part to play, what choices will you make? β€œDealing with Drugs” is on display now until April 2021 at the Maritime Museum. https://www.maritiemmuseum.nl

β†’ The Maritime Museum, Leuvehaven 1. Open Tues-Sat 10 AM – 5 PM, Sun 11 AM – 5 PM.
