Good food, bars and shops aren’t the only things on offer in Rotterdam’s coolest quarter. There’s art to be discovered as well. Every Friday evening, diverse contemporary art institutions, all within a few hundred metres of each other, throw open their doors to the public, creating a fantastic opportunity to view exhibitions and performances for free.
Start with Showroom MAMA, one of the more unconventional galleries in town. Don’t miss its current exhibition, Gentle Dust, which explores the relationship between art and large museums. Nearby exhibition room TENT also likes to shake things up. This autumn, a group of artists have come together in a joint exhibition, expressing their viewpoints on gender and sexuality. Next, step into the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art where there are always multiple exhibitions on show. Then on to WORM for parties, films and music, or V2, Rotterdam’s top exhibition space for new media art.
The free art evenings are held every Friday from 6pm to 9pm. Visit the exhibitions on your own or join the Kunstblock Tour, also free of charge. The tour starts at TENT, 50 Witte De Withstraat. Just register your name at the reception desk and you are ready to go.
